Neuheisel coaching Bruins in Pac-12 championship game

Rick Neuheisel

UCLA’s football team has nothing to play for despite the 6-6 season record heading into the Pac-12 title game against the No. 9 ranked Oregon Ducks.

It is not hard to say that UCLA did not show up to play with the right frame of mind, against USC after they were defeated in the cross-town rivalry game 50-0.

Whether it was because the Bruins already knew that if they won or lost the game, they would still be in the inaugural PAC-12 championship game representing the South division, because of USC sanctions, or any other reason, but either way you could not have helped the team’s cause.

Especially for the sake of Bruin’s head football coach Rick Neuheisel, who was told he was going to be fired several days after the loss to the Trojans last week.

Despite being told he was going to be fired, he is still going to coach the Bruins in the Pac-12 title championship game and may also coach in the team’s bowl game, one can only wonder if the players are going to be willing to come out and play for their coach one last time.

It is hard to believe that they will come out to play for Neuheisel now, but it would almost be a shame if they did since it would already to be too late to try to save their coaches’ job.

UCLA may already have lost the game before it began, as players have already carried their coach off the field after practice on Wednesday, the same day in which the NCAA approved the bowl petition waiver for UCLA should they lose to the Ducks in the Pac-12 title game and fall below a .500 record at 6-7 on the season.

Race for Rookie of the Year!

The race for the NFL offensive rookie of the year is proving to be a closer race than many had expected.

While the number one overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft, quarterback Cam Newton, who was drafted by the Carolina Panthers.

Newton has 2,605 passing yard and 11 touchdowns through the air in nine games this season.

He also has 374 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on the ground.

While he has been able to produce statically, it is not managing to turn into wins for him and the panthers, who are sitting on a 2-7 record heading into their week11 match up against the Lions.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback and second round pick, Andy Dalton has been recently making a strong case in the race leading his team to a 6-3 record.

Dalton has 1,866 total passing yards this season and 14 touchdowns threw the first nine games on the schedule.

Six of Dalton’s 14 touchdowns this season have been the Bengals’ 2011 first round draft pick and wide receiver A.J. Green.

With Green and Dalton being drafted in the same class and building the chemistry they already have, it is likely they could become the next Joe Montana and Jerry Rice combo.
